TMCAT17 LCD KVM Switch

Raritan’s LCD KVM switches combine a keyboard, video, mouse and KVM switch into an easy-to-install, 1U device, giving you an all-in-one solution for your rack management needs.

OVERVIEW

We offer two models to support multiple data center and server room configurations:

• TMCAT1728, which enables two users to control up to 8 servers simultaneously
• TMCAT17216, which enables two users to control up to 16 servers simultaneously

Both provide you with the convenience of using standard UTP cabling to connect to servers directly, while an optional second user can access servers from outside the server room up to 650 feet (195m) away.

View the Technical Specifications for the TMCAT17 LCD KVM Switch

These LCD KVM switches also give you two ways to connect to servers. If the servers are all at the rack, you can use Raritan’s MCUTP cable, the most up-to-date cable available from Raritan’s mature Cat5 technology. For longer distance connections, you can use Cat5 cables and CIMs (computer interface modules) to connect to servers up to 150 feet (45m) away.

Our flexible LCD KVM switches feature:

• A grade A+ TFT display monitor with 1280 x 1024 resolution
• “Lights-out” server room access, with a second user up to 650 feet (195m) away from the switch, using TMCAT17 and a user station
• 104 keys with number pad multi-language support including US English, UK English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese
• Support for brand-new cabling options. The MCUTP cable offers server room flexible cabling lengths of 2, 6, 13 and 20 feet between the servers and TMCAT17

What's more, they’re multiplatform compliant, compatible with Windows®, Linux®, Mac® and Sun™ servers.

Simply the Best – with Raritan’s New MCUTP Cable

MCCAT provides three brand-new cabling options. MCUTP cable offers server room flexible cabling lengths of 2, 6, 13 and 20 feet between the servers and MCCAT.

MCUTP cable is a brand-new cable for the MCCAT product line. It integrates Raritan’s CIM (Computer Interface Module) and UTP cable for easier cabling management.

MCUTP cables provide PS/2, USB and Sun USB support. Also, Raritan’s Computer Interface Module, with PS/2, USB, Sun and serial support, provides up to 150 feet (45m) between the target server or serial devices and the switch with the current server room’s cabling infrastructure.

These two cabling options assign and retain unique server names for each attached server automatically. They make installation and re-configuration easier.

FAQ

Question

Answer

What is the TMCAT17?

TMCAT17 is a 17-inch LCD rack console and Cat5 KVM switch integrated into a single rack access solution for SMB and server room environments.

TMCAT17 is available in two models: TMCAT1728 (8-port) and TMCAT17216 (16-port). Both models allow two users to simultaneously access servers via independent KVM sessions. The first user accesses servers at the rack through the LCD KVM console. The second user accesses servers from a distance of up to 100 feet (30m) away through a Cat5 cable connected to the TMCAT17. For longer distance connections, users can employ MCIM-PS2, MCIM-USB or DCIM-USBG2 connectors for distances up to 150 feet (45m). If servers are local, users can employ MCUTP cable – the latest cable available from Raritan’s mature Cat5 technology.

TMCAT17 supports Windows®, Linux®, Mac® and Sun® Solaris™ Operating Systems.

TMCAT17 also supports cascading, with MCCAT28 and MCCAT216 as the second tier to control up to 256 servers.

What is the size of the TMCAT17 LCD KVM switch?

TMCAT17 is only 1U in height and fits in a standard 19-inch rack.

What type of display is used with the TMCAT17?

The TMCAT17 uses a 17-inch, Grade A+ TFT panel display.

What interfaces does the TMCAT17 support?

TMCAT17 supports USB, PS/2 and Sun USB keyboards and mice interfaces.

What is the second user port’s purpose on the TMCAT17 units?

TMCAT17 provides a second user port as an option for additional user access from up to 100 feet (30m) away by connecting via a MasterConsole® User Station or 650 feet (195m) away through a Paragon® II Enhanced User Station (P2-EUST) and a Cat5 cable.

What is the benefit of this second user option?

This is beneficial to anyone who would like “lights-out” access to the server room.

What is the maximum distance that I can place a user station?

The MasterConsole CAT User Station (MCCAT-UST) can be placed up to 100 feet (30m) away from the TMCAT17.

For greater distances, the TMCAT17 supports the Paragon II Enhanced User Station (P2-EUST), which can be placed up to 650 feet (195m) away from the switch.

What types of servers does TMCAT17 support?

MS-DOS, Windows 2000/2003/NT®/Me/XP/Vista®, Linux (Red Hat, Novell® Suse), SCO UNIX®, Macintosh® OS9, OSX and Sun Solaris.

Can TMCAT17 use MCUTP cables to connect servers at the rack?

Yes, TMCAT17 is fully compatible with MCUTP cables. We recommend using MCUTP cables to connect to servers at the same rack. For longer distances, you can also use Raritan CIMs.

What is an MCUTP cable?

Allows easier server selection from the on-screen menu.

How many types of interface does an MCUTP cable have?

There are three different interfaces (PS/2, USB and Sun USB) and four different lengths (2 feet, 6 feet, 13 feet and 20 feet) to choose from.

I don't want to use the Scroll Lock key as my hot key. What are my options?

The hot key can be easily changed to the Number Lock, Caps Lock or other keys. When in hot-key mode, touch the desired new hot-key activator, followed by the Enter key.
